Bath Theatre School operates on Saturdays during school term time with the choice of 2 schools that run from 9.30am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 4.30pm, where students will be taught one hour each of acting, dancing and singing.
Act ¦ Drama
Term One will concentrate on all the core foundation work, including mime, learning to work on small improvised sketches (a mix of character led and theme stimulus), working with script, creating and performing small plays, building confidence and improving stage presence.
Term Two prepares students for the Trinity board exams. Students will work with selected audition solos and prepared duologues, giving all students a chance to perform their examination pieces to the other students in their class.
Term Three focuses on auditioning and rehearsing for the end of year production, which will involve the whole school. Using skills taught throughout the previous terms, students will rehearse with the larger stage in mind, concentrating on acting in a large group with complete stage awareness.
Dance
Term One of dance is created to teach students the various styles and dynamics of dance. Students will learn dances from current pop videos, contemporary partner and group work and musical theatre routines that are currently in the West End and on Broadway. The term will also focus on the performance of dance through expressions and feelings.
Term Two will prepare students for their Trinity Exams and build upon the skills learnt in Term one. Students will learn how to perform under exam conditions and further emphasis will be given to creating an overall dance ‘performance’.
Term Three is based around the theatre performance experience. Students will rehearse and learn dances for the end of year show in which all students shall work as a team to create. The students will learn how to become a character through their dance performance and the end of year show will showcase the skills they have learnt in terms one and two.
Sing
Term One, students will work on developing their voice and expanding their vocal range. Students will be introduced to different rhythms and tempos in music, allowing them to be challenged with a wide repertoire ranging from current popular music to musical theatre whilst improving technique and vocal ability.
Term two focuses on the more technical elements of singing such as articulation and diction. As part of the term’s preparation for the Trinity exams, students will build upon performance techniques through using song as an expression of thoughts and feelings under exam conditions.
Term Three builds upon the techniques and vocal ability learnt in the previous terms. Students will rehearse songs for the end of year production with an emphasis on vocal performance through expressions and accents. The show will enable them to sing as part of a group as well as being given opportunities to perform solos.
